thanksgiving, decking the halls and a birthday

Well, maybe not exactly in that order…but that’s what the past week has consisted of.

Last Wednesday we put up our trees and I spent the next couple of days decking the halls. Everything looks exactly like last year, except our living room tree.

This tree is only slightly different. I added some turquoise and chartreuse decorations.

Thanksgiving was a quiet day spent at my parents’ house. Jason and Molly and the boys were there, along with G.G. Scott and Erika didn’t make it to Kansas this year. We also visited Jeremy’s parents and grandma that evening. His grandpa was in the hospital and is now recovering at a nursing home. He should be back home soon, though.

Thanksgiving also marked the arrival of Dexter from the North Pole.

Our halls at home are the only ones I was busy decking this weekend. I also decorated my classroom door. This year we are having a contest between the teachers. I started looking on Pinterest, certain I would find an idea. However, I began to fear that the other teachers would also look on Pinterest so I had to get creative on my own.

This is based on Mo Willems’ characters from his books. So if you haven’t read his books, you can’t quite fully appreciate it.

Sunday marked Bri’s 19th birthday.

We went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant and then had ice cream cake before she headed on her merry way.

I’ll be back soon for more Dexter the elf updates (if nothing else).

mid-november catch-up

I do so much of my “computer stuff” on my iPad (my work provided it) that I rarely even use our computer. Which means I rarely blog anymore. I always intend to do better. And apparently I continue to fail! Hopefully I still have a faithful reader or two out there. If not, I suppose I at least have a record of our lives for posterity!

Halloween was on a Thursday and there happened to be a home football game that night. So we went to Trunk or Treat before the game. Poor Delaney was ready to go knocking on doors at 9:00 when we got home from the game.

It was the last home football game and Senior Night. The other dancers gave Allison a muffin basket. She was thrilled! I think she’d choose food over flowers any day!

We’ve had a fairly uneventful November, which is always a good thing around here! If you’ve been on Facebook this month, you’ve probably seen a billion daily thankful posts. For some reason these annoy the heck out of me. Not because I’m not thankful, but I just don’t see the need for everyone to post that they’re thankful for their family, their job, their house, etc. Needless to say, no thankful posts from me. But I did decide to do a “thankful” banner with Delaney. She tells me something she’s thankful for and I write it on a leaf and clip it to our banner. Teaching thankfulness to a five year old is harder than I thought. But my very favorite thankful leaf is “I’m thankful for kisses, nose kisses and hugs.” So precious! And I know she won’t be thankful for those kisses for very much longer! I need to cherish them while I can.

homecoming weekend

What a busy couple of days! Last night was homecoming and a very special night for our beautiful daughter, Allison.

She was partnered with Jacob, who is a long-time friend since kindergarten. Plus his mom is one of my co-workers and best friends, so we were quite excited!

No, Allison wasn’t voted as queen, but we couldn’t be more proud!

This morning, we wrapped up the homecoming festivities with a parade.

It was weird not having Bri in the band!

Lincoln elementary kids and staff walked in the parade. Not me though. Someone had to take pictures!

Today was also Delaney’s last soccer game of the season. She started the season slow, but greatly improved by the end.

She was close to scoring a few times. And was a fast runner. IMG_4641

She made some great goal kicks.

And saved at least 3 goals.

Another season has come to an end. What will we ever do on Saturday mornings? Oh yeah, maybe sleep!
