catching up on christmas eve

The week sure got away from me! I’ve been busy baking, entertaining, crafting, shopping, wrapping and celebrating. No computer time for this mama! So here is our week in review:

Christmas crafts:

This foam tree craft was one of our advent gifts. Delaney loved decorating her very own tree!

This Santa ornament was made from salt dough. We rolled it out and baked it and then painted it to make it look like a shiny Santa!

Christmas get-togethers:

Our annual Christmas celebration with our dear friends. We’ve been doing this since the big kids were Delaney’s age!

IMG_3451

We also got together with Nate’s former nurse (that’s a sad story that I don’t want to talk about right now) and her family.

The three kids are wild and have so much fun. Could’ve been the sugary vintage soda we gave them!

Delaney is very protective of my nativity set. Especially after last year when she thought it would be a good idea to play with the pieces and broke Joseph into a million pieces. I did manage to repair him and you can only tell if you look at his back side.

So Delaney gets a little distraught when the cats are hanging around baby Jesus. The other day she reported that “Jinx is sitting on the ‘Away in a Manger’ book.”

week in review

Another week down. Wow!!

Here’s a peek at our week:

collage

Day 8: This is our pickle ornament…you hide the pickle and according to German tradition, the child who finds the pickle will receive an extra gift from St. Nick. But don’t tell our kids about the extra present part. We do it just for fun!
Day 9: I love my Kindle. If you don’t have an e-reader, I highly recommend trying one out. I’m currently reading Gone Girl.
Day 10: Wrapping paper…pretty self-explanatory.
Day 11: You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
Days 12 & 13: I was uninspired and sat them out.
Day 14: Our living room tree. Please notice Delaney’s most prized possession…her red Dorothy shoes. They were an early present left by Santa because the shelf elves have reported how nice she has been.
Day 15: Jingle Bells (for the winter formal…Jingle Bell Ball).

weekend

My plans to sleep late on a Saturday morning were not to be fulfilled today. At 5:30 I awoke to these words, “Mom, I threw up in my bed.” Yes, the yuckies have made it to our house. After stripping down her bed, I tucked her back in and managed to fall back asleep. Apparently (and unbeknownst to me), my precious little girl didn’t fair so well the rest of the night. After throwing up in her bed again, she ended up sleeping on the couch. And the next time she got sick, she made it to the bathroom. Yes, she’s four. And yes, I feel terrible for her. But I must say I’m a teensy bit proud of her ability to stay calm and actually make it to the bathroom!

That naughty little Dexter had no idea that Delaney would be sick, or else I’m certain he wouldn’t have chosen this particular night to pull such a prank as this:

I’m also quite certain her mustache would have faired much better under more favorable circumstances.

On a happy note, her stomach bug seems to have passed as quickly as it came. She has been playing all afternoon and evening and seems to be back to herself.

Now let me catch you up on Dexter’s other adventures this week.

my week in review

I’ve been doing a photo a day challenge for December. If you are my friend on Facebook, then I apologize because you’ve already seen these. And I couldn’t really figure out how to do this collage better and put the pictures in order. Maybe I’ll work on that for next week!

week 1 collage

Day 1: We were driving through the Flint Hills on our way back from Kansas City.
Day 2: I have way too many favorite Christmas movies to pick just one!! We have watched A Christmas Story and Elf already this year.
Day 3: Pretty self-explanatory…red ornament from my Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
Day 4: What’s more joyous than the birth of Jesus?
Day 5: It was 58 degrees at 5:30 on December 5. That doesn’t happen too often in Kansas.
Day 6: I’ve already done most of my shopping. I love Amazon!!!
Day 7: Bright and beautiful branches. How’s that for alliteration?

annual Christmas parade

IMG_3254

Tonight was the Christmas parade. Bri’s last parade in high school.

IMG_3258 IMG_3260 IMG_3263 IMG_3264 IMG_3265 IMG_3274IMG950528

After the parade we tried our luck with Santa. Morgan graciously agreed to sit on Santa’s lap in order to cajole Delaney to do the same.

IMG_3275

At first, Delaney tried to make a run for it. But Gaga and Papa managed to get her on Santa’s lap. And once she was there she actually talked to him. She hasn’t sat on Santa’s lap since she was one and that was a disaster. Hopefully we are over that hurdle!!

IMG_3276  IMG950537 IMG951864

She wants red Dorothy shoes. And a Merida dress. And a bow and arrow.

Hopefully she’s on the nice list this year!!

multiplication week

Last week we immersed our third graders in multiplication. All day, everyday was spent with hands-on activities so the kiddos would understand the concept so they can eventually {hopefully} begin to memorize their facts.

IMAG1084 IMAG1085

We made arrays with cereal.

IMAG1086 IMAG1087 IMAG1088 (1)

We put objects in groups and connected that to multiplication.

IMAG1089

Each student made his/her own flash card folder.

IMAG1090

When they get a set correct, their partner colors in a box for that set. Fill up the chart and you will be rewarded with a sweet treat!

IMAG1094 IMAG1096 IMAG1098 IMAG1099

The kids had a great time with their insect problems for multiplying by six!

Now we will spend the rest of the days until Christmas break fine tuning the skills they learned during multiplication week!!
