demolition

Earlier this week they started demolition on our old school. It sits on the same campus as our new school, so we spent a bit of our morning watching out the windows.

Here’s a Facebook quote from our band teacher:

Down goes Old Lincoln. Majestic New Lincoln rises above the demolition.

The entire school was down in two days. Trucks picked through the rubble and sorted out metal and bricks and everything else into piles. By day three, a good part of the destruction had been cleared away.

Goodbye “Old” Lincoln. Where 3 of my 4 kids started kindergarten and where I taught for 13 years. You served our family well!

Happy B-day Kansas!!

Today our great state is 152! And our school had a Kansas Day celebration.

The students rotated through several stations (soap carving, story time in a “log cabin”, quilting, pioneer games, etc.) I was in charge of apple turnovers. Whenever you feed kids, it’s always a popular place!

They were super easy and I had a lot of great help!

Start with a canned biscuit. Flatten it out. Put a spoonful of apple pie filling and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Fold over and crimp the edges to make a turnover. Place in the waffle iron for 2 minutes.

And there you have it! They weren’t the prettiest and they were quite messy. But the kids loved them! We drizzled them with some powdered sugar frosting. Now if only I can figure out how the early Kansas settlers cleaned their waffle irons (wink wink)!

We ended our day with a Cowboys and Cattle Drives demonstration from our principal.

new year update

Here we are halfway through January and I haven’t posted since before Christmas!! I won’t bore you with family pictures from Christmas.

On New Year’s Eve we ended up getting the first snow in about 2 years. So I took Delaney over to Gaga and Papa’s backyard (they have a couple of awesome hills for sledding) on New Year’s Day.

The rest of January has been fairly uneventful. I did spend all day Saturday in Olathe at the Miss Kansas Dance Festival. And when I say all day, I mean all day. Thank goodness for my awesome mom who was willing to spend the day with me. We left town at 7 am and made it home right at midnight. The girls took 3 dances and took home 5 trophies!

So that pretty much sums up what’s been going on here.

I did get a new iPhone for Christmas. I’ve been an android user for several years and decided to crossover to the other side. Today I was so excited to find the bump app. Probably everyone already uses it, but it was new to me and will make my life so much easier!! A lot of times I take pictures on my phone, just because it’s with me and honestly, phones take pretty darn good pictures these days! The only problem is getting them to my computer to post on my blog. In the past, I would email them to myself and then download them to my PC. What a pain! Well today I found the bump app and I can share them with my computer in a matter of seconds. Here’s how:

Download the free bump app to your iPhone. Then go to the bump website using google chrome, firefox or safari browsers. Open the bump app on your phone and choose to download files. Click on the pictures you want to share (I did about 15 at once…not sure if there is a limit). Then you touch the spacebar on your PC and voila…your pictures are there and ready to download!

Hope your year has been great so far!
