Writer's Workshop

So I decided to let Mama Kat over at Mama's Losin' It inspire me once again with her Writer's Workshop prompts. This week's prompt (or at least the one I chose):

If you could change career paths now and be anything you wanted to be...what would you be and why?

I want to start off by saying that I absolutely love teaching. I can't remember a time when I wanted to do something other than be a teacher. Sure I may complain about going to work from time to time. But overall, I truly have a passion for teaching.

But, if I had to choose a new career path, I would want to be a writer. I've wanted to be a writer for quite awhile. I always enjoyed English classes in high school and college. And I wrote for my school newspaper in middle school (I know that hardly counts). The problem is, I don't know what I would want to write. Not children's books. Not memoirs (my life's not interesting enough). Possibly a novel. Or historical fiction. Or short stories.

Maybe that's why I enjoy blogging so much. It gives me a creative outlet. Sometimes I go to bed at night and my mind is spinning with ideas but I don't know what to do with them. I know my blog is hardly a novel worthy of publishing. It's just a bunch of rambling drivel about my kids and the goings on at our house.

Maybe someday I'll figure out what I would want to write about and in my spare time (ha!) I'll get started on it!

Gotta Get My Stuff Done

Today has been a day of major procrastination. And it's only 9 am.

I've always been a procrastinator. I do some of my best work when I'm under a little pressure. But this is getting ridiculous!

I'm taking a class this summer through our school district. It's all online and my assignments for this week include reading a couple of online articles and watching an online video. Sounds fairly simple, right?

Well this morning I thought I'd read one article while Delaney was still in bed. But when I opened up my laptop, I decided I should catch up on my blog reading. Then I started getting a little hungry, so I decided to make some blueberry muffins. Then I noticed how cluttered the kitchen and living room had gotten, so I tidied up in both of those rooms. Productive, right?

But here I am, still need to read that article and am blogging about it instead of actually reading it! I think I need some real help here, my friends.

Wordless Wednesday

Summer Days

Summers for teachers are supposed to be 3 months of sleeping in, hanging out at the pool (or golf course), catching up on reading, staying up late, laid-back days, right? Well let me set you straight!

First of all, for the record, summer vacation is really only a little more than 2 months. Especially when you consider the extra days we spend in August getting our classrooms ready. Just wanted to make that little tidbit clear to everyone.

For us, summer does have its share of laid-back days. We piddle around the house, complete home improvement projects, take a family vacation, and the golf course sees plenty of Jeremy.
But we also spend a LOT of time at doctor's appointments.

Today we started the appointment season with a visit to the ENT for Jeremy. He's already had strep throat at least twice this year. I suppose you could count it as three times because after the first bout he had to get back on an antibiotic. And he's had more than his fair share of encounters with strep in his life. I won't go into all the gory details. But he is having a tonsillectomy in July. Lord give me strength!!!

Other upcoming appointments include visits to the neurologist, endocrinologist and pulmonologist for Nate. Dentist appointments for Mom, Dad, Bri and Alli. Orthodontist appointment for Allison. Delaney will see the pediatrician for more shots. Sports physicals for both girls. Mom sees the gyno (woohoo). And most likely Nate will have a bronchoscopy (annual procedure) toward the end of the summer.

In other news, Nate started summer school yesterday. He goes from 8:30 to 12:30 on Monday through Thursday for seven weeks. His nurse, Melissa goes with him and the bus transports them to and from school. It's so good for him to get out. I think he gets bored at home. I mean there's only so much baseball a kid can watch! Let me rephrase that...there's only so much baseball WE can watch! And it's nice for us to have a little bit of freedom from his care.
But there goes sleeping in.

So there you have it. Not a terribly exciting start to our summer. But we're starting to get into a routine. And before you know it, we'll be back to school and dreaming of the summer days we were sitting in waiting rooms, flipping through magazines.

Jordan

Jordan is Allison's BFF from grade school. They were inseparable. They were creative. They were an extension of each other's families. And then her family moved away when the girls were in 5th grade.

But Jordan came to town for a visit last week and stayed with us for several days. The girls had a great time. It was like she'd never been gone. We took a ton of pictures. There were so many that I had to do some collages just to keep from overloading my post!!
