determination

Delaney has been begging Jeremy to take her training wheels off her bike for several days. Finally last evening he did. And thanks to the help of our 11 year old neighbors, Delaney basically mastered it within minutes.

Once again, lazy parenting paid off!

tanganyika

Today we went to Tanganyika Wildlife Park. Check that off our summer list. I went a couple of weeks ago for a field trip, but this was a first for Jeremy and Delaney. It’s not nearly as big as the zoo, but it’s much more interactive. Which is probably why Delaney didn’t much enjoy it.

This is a baby Colobus monkey. He was so cute!!

There were several baby kangaroos in their mama’s pouches.

IMG_3970

Delaney did pet one kangaroo briefly.

IMG_3972

But mostly she clung to her daddy as we walked through the kangaroo enclosure.

This baby was trying to climb back in it’s mama’s pouch.

This is an albino alligator. Apparently they are extremely rare and can only survive in captivity.

IMG_3978 IMG_3981 IMG_3982 IMG_3985

Delaney especially disliked the lemurs. Yeah, she was just barrels of fun today!

IMG_3987 IMG_3991

We probably won’t be going back anytime soon. It was a fun way to spend a summer afternoon. But Delaney loves the zoo so much more! Where the animals are safely behind glass and tall fences.

windy day fun

The weather in Kansas is anything but predictable. However, there are a couple of things about the weather you can count on. Humidity and wind. And we have had them both this weekend! What can you do outside when it’s windy, you ask? Fly a kite, of course!!

Delaney witnessed some neighborhood kids flying kites, which inspired her. She asked us to help her make a kite, to which lazy parents like us respond, “we don’t know how.” Next thing I know I’m cleaning up Elmer’s glue in the bathroom as she’s trying to glue ribbon onto a piece of copy paper with a kite drawn on it. Jeremy, being a sucker for his daughter, proceeded to take her to Walmart to buy a kite. Perhaps it was the embarrassment of watching her run around the driveway with her pitiful little kite dragging behind. No matter the reason, she was thrilled to have an actual kite to fly.

She ran up and down our street repeatedly, dodging trees.

IMG_3952

Oops…until our neighbor’s tree won the battle. But Jeremy, being the true hero he his, thanks to his awesome vertical jump, was able to rescue the kite and she was back in business in no time.

IMG_3959

It was a fun, impromptu way to spend our evening. And it wasn’t even on our summer list!

Go Angry Birds!!

And Happy Memorial Day. Thank you to all who have served our wonderful country!

summer is here!

Summer has finally arrived! It was a crazy spring. Busy with proms and graduations and end of the school year festivities. And the weather, quite frankly, sucked. So we are beyond excited to begin our summer vacation.

Here are a few things we hope to do this summer:

Photo 4

This list was mostly for Delaney and me. The rest of the family isn’t really into “family style” summer fun. I’m sure they will be along for the ride for several of these, but it’s just not cool to plan them.

We checked 3D movie off our list. We saw Epic and it was really good. It was the first 3D movie for Jeremy. Photo 5

We’ve been to the Play Park a couple of times already. We have to get that one in while the weather is cool enough to tolerate being outside. Delaney is really good at finding friends to play with at the park. It makes me laugh to hear them. Some kids were chasing and playing tag and Delaney came over by me for “protection.” A little boy about her age said “I’m a knight and I’ll save you, Princess.” And off they went. Too cute!

Gaga has some beautiful peonies. And they smell wonderful. Now we are enjoying a bouquet of fresh flowers from Gaga’s garden.

Happy summer!!

birthday girl

Today my middle daughter turns 17. I know she feels like her day has been overshadowed by Bri’s graduation. Every year I’m sure she feels like her day is overshadowed by the end of the school year. But I do my best to make her day special. Some years I fail.

This was when she turned 6. We planned her party at the Play Park, but the rain ruined our plans. So we ended up moving the party to our house. The kids played musical chairs in our basement and they probably had just as much fun as if we’d played at the park. And I suppose it ended up being more memorable because of the weather.

Happy Birthday Allison!!! I love you to the moon and back! Hope your day is as special as you!

happy graduation day

IMG_3890 IMG_3891

Today was Bri’s high school graduation! It was a tad bit windy, as you’ll notice in the pictures! Poor Bri had to chase down her cap at one point.

IMG_3893 IMG_3895 IMG_3897 IMG_3900 IMG_3902  IMG_3906

We are so proud of her! She plans to live at home and go to community college in the fall (following in her mama’s footsteps).

IMG_3908

After graduation, we had a small party to celebrate!

IMG_3909

cupcakes…made by this mama.

IMG_3910

cookies…baked by gaga and decorated by me.

IMG_3911

turkey wraps…yum!

IMG_3913

We also had pasta salad, crackers and dip, veggies and dip and chips. I prepared all the food (with some help from my wonderful mom!)

IMG_3914 IMG_3915

orange and black sixlets…one of Bri’s very favorite candies.

IMG_3916 IMG_3917

We also had chocolate fondue…another one of Bri’s favorite things.

IMG_3928

Now this is an idea I got from Pinterest. I used zebra duct tape to decorate the water bottles. And I froze orange and black water balloons to keep the water cool. The water balloons were somewhat of a bust…no pun intended. As they began to melt, the balloons broke. They still kept the water cool, but we just had  huge pear shaped balls of ice.
